This is a very decent Chromebook

The advantage of a Chromebook over a Windows PC is the operating system is far lighter. The Celeron N4020 and 4GB of LPDDR4 should be plenty to keep this feeling relative zippy. The 1080p Touchscreen is also nice for a budget chromebook.

This note book is exactly what I needed!
I am a grad student, and I have a mac at home, I wanted another computer that is portable, light weight and has a long battery life. I saw the new Mac Book, which looks great, but I did not want to pay apple price. So I went ahead and bought this ASUS chrome book and honestly I could not have been happier with my decision. I have saved myself more than a 1000$, and since my life as a student is basically all online and in the cloud, this Chrome book is basically all I need now.

Software:
This was my first experience with a Chrome OS, I was skeptical about it at first, since it is not as sophisticated as the apple OS or even Windows, but frankly, this is where Chrome OS's strength lies! since it is a light operating system it doesn't crash, user friendly, very fast, and for an average computer user who depends mostly on browsing, this is all you need. I have been using Chrome OSfor a full semester now, and it did not come short at any task I needed to perform.

Hardware:
The device itself is pretty slick, light weight, and the battery life is amazing. It has the needed plugs, from USB to HDMI, the charger is light weight and the battery charges fast. The screen quality is very decent, and the voice OK but not listening-to-music material, but I have solved this problem with a 15$ bluetooth speaker that you can sync with the Chrome book.

All in all I think this product is truly great for the price and functionality of it, I have already recommended it for a couple of friends.

Two years later and a cable connection to the screen of this notebook is damaged - the screen will only illuminate in two positions. It will break or crimp further (and likely become entirely useless) with more use, so I'm replacing the Chromebook. I know should of's and could of's are no help, but in this case, yes I should have put a Square Trade or other warranty on it - pricey investment for just 2 years of use. My husband has a Toshiba Chromebook that's 4 years old with no issues, and he's much harder on his than I am on this one, so am switching brands. Lesson learned.

UPDATE - Asus service responded to my review and sent me a repair ticket. My Chromebook was returned a few weeks later and I was only out the shipping to their Texas service center. So far (3 days) the problem appears to be corrected, and I appreciate their response and fast service. I 'upped' my rating from 1 to 4 stars due to Asus' good customer service. The laptop still should not have broken with such little use, but I appreciate that they made it right.

I've had this laptop since January of 2015 and it's still going strong! I realized I hadn't written a review. NOTE: You will only be able to play games via Google Play. This is NOT run by Microsoft which is why I wanted it. I use it for bills, email, web searches, and for paperwork. This is exactly what I needed...no frills. I am only NOT able to print from it. That is likely my issue and not the computer's as I haven't spent a lot of time trying to get it to print.

It uses Google Cloud which is awesome. Everything I type is auto-saved to the Cloud. Further, YOU decide if what you are working on is to be viewed by all or a limited audience or NO audience. I choose the latter.

Great laptop. It still runs like the day I opened the box and has been traveling with me as well as for daily use.

The battery still holds for a full day of charge- I charge it only a few times per week as it's THAT GOOD!

I just love this computer ! It is fast and just works without any layers to bog it down . This Asus is well made and the price was great . I bought the 4 GB ram with the 32 GB hard drive on special for 229 . I wanted to replace my old broken Apple Air Book but just couldn't justify the price . I would buy this over Acer or Samsung . HP is a close second but it cost's more . For those who complain about not being able to get the extra cloud storage, this is not the computers fault . You need to contact Google and go to Google help . You log on and Google will verify that your computer is a new Android device. You will now have 1 TB of cloud storage . Don't blame the computer for not knowing how to do this . If you use a Android smartphone . everything is there for you once you sign on to your Google account . I bought a I Pearl cover instead of a sleeve to protect this . It works well and it takes a bearing without scaring the computer . Costs more but it;s worth the extra protection .
So in summary. The price at Amazon was good when there was a price drop, plus I had reward points . The Asus build is very good . And finally, if you use Google and Android you'll like this computer .
After using this Chromebook I rememberedabout the Chrome web store . I was able to download Microsoft Word and similar Microsoft apps . So it just gets better and better. Yes there's a learning curve . But isn't life a learning curve ?

I love my Chromebook.This computer is great for watching my movies on Netflix without having to wait anytime.I was surprised at the quickness of doing anything on it.It works like a computer but has all the apps for a tablet.The keys are a little hard to see with the letters but it's something I don't have to worry about because I have used keyboards for years so I know where all the keys are on it.I love the extra keys at the top of the keyboard.There are forward and back like the top when your online; refresh;an F12 button to get rid of the top and bottom when your online and doon't want to see that stuff when you're reading; brightness; and volume control.It has an HDMI so that I can hook up a bigger monitor and 2 usb ports.One I use for a mouse because I hate any computer that comes with a finger pad.There is also a port for headphones.I love this chromebook very much and I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one just to have around.Great price and a great computer.

What an amazing deal at under $400. I've been using this for a few weeks now and it's everything I expected.

Hardware:
I hardly notice it when I'm carrying it around. Compared with my wife's 11" MacBook Air (>$1000), it is about the same weight even considering the bigger screen. The key pad has a very nice feel and the track pad is super-intuitive to use; not ultra-sensitive but still impressive. I have so far experienced no lag issues, which is one of the reasons I like the idea of the Chrome OS: 4GB RAM is plenty, and I'm really glad I chose the 32GB storage option, because if I want to load up some videos and movies without relying on internet access, I don't need a USB or anything. ASUS gave this machine a very slick look, though I seem to leave fingerprints on it very easily (and I don't think I'm that dirty) so if I want it to look as good as when I opened it, I always have to wipe it down. The only true weakness is that the screen can be pretty susceptible to glare and contrast distortion at bad angles, mind you I'm comparing this to a MacBook, and this thing is like 1/3 the price so I expected that. The resolution is great though. Also, the speakers are FAR better than I expected: High quality and strong.

OS:
I was worried about the limits of the Chrome OS because it is very new and not as fully capable as other computers, but it does nearly everything I wanted it for. I bought it as a secondary computer, because you cannot download software, but only web-apps, which are often little more than the websites themselves. But in true Google form, everything is super-intuitive while also being personalizable. There is virtually no learning curve whether you come from a windows background or a mac background. It has links for all the crucial webapps like Docs and sheets, the search feature is excellent (obviously) and the tutorial tells you everything you need to know. I was worried it wouldn't be able to read my external hard-drives, or they would require formatting (like when dealing with Macs) but it can read both my external hard-drives without issue (which cannot be said for the MacBook). File managing is not quite as complete as with Windows or Mac OSs (if you try to move multiple items to multiple folders simultaneously, it doesn't seem to handle all the commands), but it does the job just fine nevertheless. Only major downside is that it doesn't seem to play my MKV videos and I have a lot of them, though avi and mp4 work fine.

As a stand-alone computer it might fall short, but for students or as a secondary computer, it is perfect.

I bought my Chromebook in March. Two weeks ago, the screen started flickering and a smell of burning plastic filled the room.

Sent it in for repairs since it was still under warranty. It was supposed to take up to 5 business days. Now, two weeks later, Asus support say they're doing advanced repairs. They do not offer replacement computers, no matter the damage.

Needless to say, I will not buy from Asus again.
